a frigid adventure race. a mountain epic.
8.3-16.2 miles of frozen insanity
the toughest trail half marathon in the Northeast.
AGE REQUIREMENT & EXCEPTION REQUEST
★ Participants must be 16 or older to register.

★ Exceptions may be granted for runners under 16 who can clearly show they have the experience, grit, and winter trail sense needed to finish this race without self-destructing.

★ If an under-16 runner is approved, they must run with their parent/guardian the entire race.
That means: you run too. Not spectate, not “meet them later,” not “see you at
Bacon Station.” You are on the mountain with them, mile for mile.

★ Under-16 runners are officially registered on race day only.
This means you might not hear from us before registration opens — and that is
normal.
Just make sure you snag your spot first.
We’ll let you know if your small human is approved to suffer alongside you.

★ Do not register a minor via UltraSignUp using a false birthdate.
If we find out, both of you are removed from the event, no refund, no exceptions.

We take this policy seriously. It’s about safety, not gatekeeping.
If we approve your child and then find out you did not run together as required, you will both be disqualified and neither of you will receive a refund.
"HOW DO YOU DECIDE IF YOU'LL MAKE AN EXCEPTION?"
We look at actual trail experience, especially in the past year.
Things we consider:
★ Recent trail races or mountain events (not just road 5Ks)
★ Whether you have run The Frozen Snot before
★ Whether you are registered for this year's race
★ Ability to handle steep, technical winter terrain without panicking, crying, or
cartwheeling into the void
"I KNOW MY KID. WHO ARE YOU TO DECIDE?"
We are trail runners who have done this race many times, in many conditions.
We know exactly what this course demands of a body, a brain, and a nervous system in February.
If we believe your child would be in over their head, we will deny the request.
Not because your kid isn’t awesome — but because the mountain does not care how awesome they are.
If your request is denied:
It’s not a no forever.
We encourage them to keep trail running, keep building technical skill, and ask again next year.
FINAL WORD
We mean this with love and respect:
Our decision is final.
Arguing, bargaining, negotiating, philosophizing, or pleading will not change it.
We want your kid to love trail running long-term — not get traumatized, frozen, or helicopter-extracted off The Beast.
If they’re ready, we’ll know.
If they’re not, we’ll tell you.
That’s the deal.
"OKAY, SO HOW DO I REQUEST AN EXCEPTION?"
If you’d like us to consider your under-16 runner, you must submit an exception request — even if they’ve been approved in previous years.

We review every request, every year.
Kids grow. Conditions change. The mountain is always in a mood.

Easy.
Fill out the form below and convince us your child is trail-feral enough to handle The Frozen Snot.
Yes — even if they’ve been approved before.
No — we do not remember every child’s full athletic history from memory.
We are many things, but we are not wizards.

Once we review it, we’ll let you know if The Beast says yes.
